 Excavation is often the first task in preparing a space for further work. Excavation is used create terraces in a slope, dig holes for pools or ponds, or simply to level an area. Benax has the equipment, skills and experience to do all of this and whatever else might be needed. 

 Terracing refers to the process of creating level areas on a slope. Depending on the geological structure of the slope and your vision, these level areas may be narrow to allow for retaining walls, large enough to create a patio area, or a combination of both. Terracing allows otherwise unusable space to become functional and more aesthetically appealing.  

Our relatively wet climate means that drainage is particularly important, both for keeping the yard usable and keeping your home protected from water damage. With years of experience in the Lower Mainland, the Benax team will devise a solution that works for your property. 

 Just like building a house, landscape design starts with a vision, but involves a great deal of detailed planning. Our design services include research and physical inspection of the property to investigate the geological properties of the area, potential drainage issues, the probably root structures of existing trees and shrubs, nearby utility lines, and equipment access routes. The next step is talking to you about the overall aesthetic you want to achieve, how you envision using the outdoor space, and the features you’d like to include. From there, we get into more details, like the type of grass for your lawn, the type of rock or stones for walls and patios, and what utility hookups will be needed. Once the plan is approved, we get to work! 

We offer a wide range of masonry and paving services to produce areas that look completely natural, inlaid designs, and everything in between. While retaining walls have an important functional purpose, the look can be totally customized using large natural rocks, grouted stones, concrete blocks, or bricks with similar or quite varied colours. Driveways, patios, staircases, and walking paths can similarly be designed to produce old world charm or a sleek modern look.

Other features such as fire pits and brick ovens can also be created by our skilled masons.

 Arboriculture is the care of trees and shrubs and you’ll have plenty of options selecting these for your yard. We’ll advise you on the pros and cons of keeping, transplanting, or removing any existing trees or shrubs, as well as making recommendations based on growth patterns, water and maintenance needs, native species, and aesthetic. After planting, we’ll either teach you how to best care for your trees and shrubs, or we can provide ongoing maintenance services for you.
